As I wondered into the presentation space to see Phoebe English Man collection I was greeted with dark outlines and silhouettes of press and photographers. Peering in between the heads of the crowd I could catch a glimpse of the lit line of models across the room each styled with shaggy hair. From afar I could already begin to make out English’s signature use of stripes and the tops of loose fitting and oversized coats. Weaving my way closer through the sea of people my eyes were drawn down to the model’s hands. In front of each model was a white plastic wrapped plinth where they were each moulding clay into pot like natural shapes and forms. This organic action and process of clay moulding coincided with English’s ethos to create a relaxed practical menswear collection which focused on form, texture and finish. English choosing nature as a focus for her collection from the materials used through to her colour pallet selecting to use sky blues and grass greens tones resulted in the presentation to emit a calming soft atmosphere and experience.
