Transparent materials and trench coats were the focal point of Tourne de Transmission AW17 collection debuted at the British Fashion Council. The collection featured a collaboration of politics and fashion. His collection ‘THE LIES THAT BIND’ was inspired by Edward L Bernays questioning of society, and the transparency Graeme Gaughan felt between policy, politics and the media. The bright lighting alongside the atmospheric music reflected the thought process of Graeme’s collection. The collection centred from the lack of transparency within policy, politics and media which was presented by using opaque materials on classic clothing such as trench coats.
Graeme Gaughan presented the classic monochrome clothing with transparent materials and vibrantly coloured strapping, making the collection noticeably distinctive. A stand out ensemble was a piece of limited colour, with an oversized orange bag which showed how wearable the pieces are. The versatility of the latest styles shows how they are adaptable for both men and women, the straps alongside the transparent materials are to emphasise how we are all bound together by industry. Traditional clothing with hints of modernisation which reflects the ideology behind the designs created by Graeme Gaughan.
