Through the influence of grime, two-step and pirate radio, Liam Hodges spring/summer 18 was a collection that saw the outcry of a current generation, a current generation that considers identity and how to demonstrate it. Through the vessel of sportswear – signature patchwork track suiting combined with work wear silhouettes, Hodges developed an identity for the man he sees wearing this seasons collection, with the collection based on “the man who needs to work flex.” This season also saw Hodges work with a number of collaborations to enhance “unveiled tomorrows”, including working with retro sportswear brand Fila. Throughout the Liam Hodges pieces, Fila’s signature colour blocking technique is developed, accompanied by Hodges observation of Fila’s classic stitching techniques – the flat lock stitching detail that is reverent within Fila’s classic Settant Mark 3 jacket, and the particular pinstripe stitching detail which is synonymous with the Fila brand. Liam Hodges “Unveiled Tomorrows” Spring/summer collection delivered the essence of an awareness of todays man – what he needs, what he wishes to wear, how he wishes to feel whilst dressing. It was indeed a collection that although may have seemed like “just sportswear”, there was much more thought and consideration that created this seasons design aesthetic, with an awareness of “creating something new” and “mashing it up”, exemplifying a new angle to the Liam Hodges design identity.
