MIMPIKITA SS16 – London Fashion Week

MIMPIKITA, a brand built collaboratively by three Malaysian sisters Mira, Nural and Syahira Zulkifli. Having designed with one another this was their UK debut at London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016. The Jungle team feel privileged to have watched the transformation of the show from backstage to the front row of the catwalk as well as previewing their Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, special thanks to Pop PR for a fantastic time.

The sisters explained backstage how they have loved immersing themselves in British culture and learning about the abundance of different styles. Mimpikita are currently stocked in Islington but are keen to broaden this supply base in the UK. The collection is not only stunning but is also affordable! The current range will retail at £50-£150 at a retailer in Islington, the accessible price points make the collection ever more desirable.

The three sisters are experimental with fabrics, the materials in the collection range from luxurious silks to textured linen. The silhouettes are loose, liberating the female form. The airy nature of the garments are designed with Malaysian weather in mind, the layering and wrapping of fabric is a very distinctive characteristic throughout the collection and allows the wearer to remain cool in warm climates.

The understated nature of the collection called for statement hair and make up. Efi Davies and her team created large bouffant hair styles built up around a ‘proper roll’ created at the back of the head to create sustained volume and a solid base. The hair was held in place by Label M texturising volume spray – an aerosol made from a mix of wax gel and dry shampoo, a fantastic product to sustain sculptural styles.
