‘Whatever happened to Sean Flynn?’ was the title and influence for Nigel Cabourn’s collection. For those who aren’t familiar with who Sean Flynn was, like I was before entering Cobourn’s space, Flynn was a photojournalist of war. He was the son of actors Errol Flynn and Lili Damiata and though Flynn tried to follow in his parents’ footsteps in acting it would be photography where he would find his true calling. Flynn drawn to the rush in which the chaos and danger his war assignments brought him, brought to light the hard-unseen truths of war; but it would be his work which would lead to his untimely death. Whilst on an assignment in Cambodia in April 1970 Flynn and his colleague Dana Stone were captured and have never been seen again…‘Whatever happened to Sean Flynn?’
Cobourn collaborated with photojournalist Tim Page who was a close friend to Flynn to bring together the collection. Using inspiration from previously unseen photographs of Fylnn and Page during their time documenting the Vietnam war, Cabourn creates a military inspired unisex collection designed for functionality and durability.
