Phoebe English’s AW16 collection made it her tenth season, and what a collection it was. Such an innovative concept that complemented the incredibly crafted garments. The ICA became an eerie greyscale waiting room, “your call is very important to us, please hold the line” played on repeat, and used tickets piled high. Models gazed bleary eyed waiting their turn.
The collection perfected layering and focused on boxy tailoring in the form of knits and oversized outerwear. The classic white shirt made an appearance, layered beneath a strappy plum latex co-ord. Models wore thick tights and mesh socks over tasselled leather loathers.
The colour palette consisted of black, midnight blue, white and plum. Silk, latex and heavily sequined materials were used and asymmetric hemlines and draping featured alongside skilful stitching. Many more techniques were exhibited such as woven detailing, panelling, frayed edging, fringing and knotting. These techniques added weight and texture to the garments.
Models sported sleek pulled back fishtails and braids and tightly curled up dos. Hair bands and accessories brought the looks together and makeup saw scribbled patterns across the models faces.
Thank you Phoebe English for another striking, bold and wonderful Collection.
