Deep echoing tones in a low-lit space with clean highlights drew a simple focus to the elegance of Phoebe English’s Autumn Winter collection at the BFC. With muted hues of navy blues and subtle greys creating block colours for minimalist looks, English created a bold juxtaposition with an all red look as well as well composed accessories. Bags took the form of shopping carriers and flat classically tote shaped backpacks that casually hung amongst the soft knits and waxed cottons. The introduction of a scalloped cuff like insert at the elbows of sleeves, longer length shirts and trousers at the front and shorter at the back were subtle personal addition for English.
The set draped an array of previous toiles, reminding viewers that there is well-considered craftsmanship and process behind each of her looks which is not be overlooked, a key focal point for the season. From heavy shirting’s, to wide leg straight trousers paired with precise boxy jackets, each individual piece speaks just as well by itself as it does as a whole. Her collaboration with knitwear designer, Helen Laurence, introduced a warm chunky waffle knit in the all red look, as well as scarves and rib knit beanies that allowed pops of colour to merge through. Another smooth and cohesive presentation from Phoebe English.
